Fortune, a 29 year old Black woman, was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of an abandoned home on August 3. Her mother, Christy Spivey, expressed profound relief upon hearing of the arrest but admitted that many questions remain unanswered. Spivey emphasized that her daughter would never have taken her own life and vowed to keep pushing for full transparency until every detail is revealed.
